Allstate Motorcycle Safety CampaignOn November 7, TEAM Arizona supported Rusty Creed in his unveiling of a “Watch for Motorcycles” sign at 32nd Street and Greenway in Phoenix.  “Once is Never Enough” (O.N.E.) was created by Allstate to encourage motorists to look left, look right and then look left again for riders before crossing an intersection – a dangerous traffic setting for riders.

According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System Encyclopedia (FARS), 43 percent of motorcycle crashes in Maricopa County occurred at intersections in 2010. To help standardize warning signs for motorcycle safety and help reduce the number of motorcycle crashes, Allstate Insurance Company is installing motorcycle warning signs at intersections throughout the U.S. this year, including three in Phoenix.

“As a rider in the Phoenix area, looking twice at intersections should always be top of mind, especially on our crowded roads,” said Allstate Agency Owner Rusty Creed. “The addition of these motorcycle warning signs will be a great reminder to help keep everyone safe.”

Currently, the Federal Highway Administration has no standard sign for motorcycle awareness in its Manual of Traffic Control Devices. The yellow, diamond-shaped warning sign was designed to establish a standardized warning device that can be used by any local or state agency and to be recognizable to riders and motorists across the country.
Simply reading, “Watch for Motorcycles,” the sign was developed by Allstate as part of its “Once is Never Enough” (ONE) program – an awareness campaign that encourages people to look twice for motorcycles at intersections – and were donated and installed in Phoenix to help prevent motorcycle crashes in the future.

Allstate worked with local traffic authorities to identify high-crash intersections for riders and then install warning signs to increase awareness of motorcycles. The signs are now permanently installed at the intersections of Greenway and 32nd St., Bell and 19th Ave., and Dunlap and 35th Ave.

In its fourth year, Allstate’s ONE program has evolved from general motorcycle awareness education, to installing temporary warning signs at dangerous intersections in more than 30 cities over the past two years, to the permanent installations of the new warning signs promoting motorcycle safety.

Allstate is also encouraging people to visit the Allstate Motorcycle Facebook page and take the O.N.E. Pledge – committing to look Rusty Creed O.N.E. Campaigntwice for motorcycles at intersections – and spread the message. To take the O.N.E. Pledge and help make the roads safer to ride, visit Facebook.com/AllstateMotorcycle.

*The Fatality Analysis Reporting System shows 46 percent of all multi-vehicle motorcycle fatalities (5,746 out of 12,571 fatalities from 2006-2010) occurred at intersections.
